Cranked Sound, Any Volume I've been guitaring 40+ years. I've played mostly acoustics during that time, but started on and have always had electrics. I bought the 50 Mk II in hopes of having a versatile, portable, and good sounding amp. The acoustic setting was also an important feature. I've had my Katana for a couple weeks now and am very pleased. My Taylor AE sounds very good through this amp and the ability to add effects such as reverb and delay is nice. It's much lighter than my Fishman Artist - the two would make a nice pair for small acoustic/vocal venues. The high-gain sounds are a little bit harder to tame though. For classic low-gain overdrive, I recommend not using the booster as it compresses and tightens the tone quite strong. The EQ is less important here. The ’acoustic’ channel is meant for acoustic guitar, and it’s kind of a blend between the clean channel and the direct sound of the guitar. Some people prefer using this channel for electric guitar with pedals, others say it kills the tone. I am still of a mind that Boss’s Katana Range of Amps are the best option for home-play / practice amp - and deliver a combination of features and performance that no other brand has really caught up with yet. Some have come close - while for me the overall coverage and character of these amps sill reigns supreme. And in terms of a value-proposition is still way out in front of the chasing mob.

The cabinet is made of quality MDF wood. It’s very sturdy yet light. The main cab is covered in a plastic skin that’s reminiscent of Tolex, except it’s much harder and smoother.

The Katana also sounds excellent at bedroom levels due to the ability to switch the wattage, so it has the added bonus of being great for home use– though, as we found out when we did our review of the best soundproof curtains, you can still annoy the neighbors with this amp.
